This course covers the practical skills that are required to save the life of a child or infant during an emergency. This is suitable for Nannies, Au Pairs, babysitters and parents who mainly need to learn about the practical elements of first aid.
The course follows the syllabus of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and meets the requirements of Ofsted for the Voluntary register.
The instructor demonstrates each practical skill, and then allows people time to practice themselves. Working in small groups candidates practice on manikins with the full support from the instructor.
Candidates will learn how to preserve life, prevent conditions from worsening, and how to promote recovery. This is achieved through demonstrations, practicals and theory. Candidates learn about the following topics and much more:
- How to check for signs of breathing
- Assessment of injuries
- Recovery position
- Resuscitation (CPR)
- Major Bleeding & shock management
- Minor injuries & burns
This is an entry-level course that is suitable for everyone. It can benefit those who may need to help an infant or child during the event of an emergency, such as parents and nannies.
On completion, candidates are awarded a Paediatric First Aid (6 Hour) certificate. The qualification is nationally recognised, valid for three years, and can be used towards the Voluntary Ofsted Childcare Register. The certificate is valid for 3 years, annual refresher training is recommended.
